FAA to JAR IR Conversion

Course Description
Instruction as required to cover JAR requirements not included in a FAA Instrument Rating. This is a very intensive course. Students must note that 15 hours is the minimum CAA requirement and will often require additional ground time and extra simulator / flight time, depending on a student's ability, in order to meet the standards demanded by the CAA for this qualification.

Course Detail

Although the FAA IR deals with many of the disciplines required to fly safely on instruments, there are a number of differences and additions that have to be covered theoretically and in the air to achieve a JAR Single Pilot Multi Engine Instrument Rating.

Subjects covered in detail by ground and air work include:

  • ILS Procedures

  • ADF/NDB theory and procedures

  • Holding Patterns

  • Hold joining procedures

  • UK CAA IFR regulations

  • Wind / Time / Drift calculations

  • UK IFR R/T procedures

  • UK Airspace Classifications

The flying element consists of 10 hours instruction in an AS350/355 FNPT II flight simulator plus 5 hours instrument flying in an IFR AS355.

Course Duration
The Non-procedural rating course typically requires 2 to 3 weeks depending on a student's progress. Procedural ratings require 1 to 2 weeks dependant on progress.

Qualification obtainable
JAR Single Pilot Multi Engine Instrument Rating.
